Description

Jersey Shore Egret is an image captured in Berkeley Township, NJ on a 96 degree day in July, 2005. The timed sudden pose of the egret, combined with a passing sailboat on Barnegat Bay makes for a popular Jersey Shore picture. 11x14 image in a 16x20 double mat. Copyright 2005, Hutch Martin. The egret was a good 100 feet away from me as I settled into the soft wetland off Bayview Avenue. Standing there waiting for him to curl his neck, I came to think of the egret as Humphrey Bogart as I stood in the muck with greenhead flies attacking and passersby thinking I had lost my mind to be out there. Seeing the sailboat passing, I begged the egret to pose as he had his neck (as they often do) straight out, calling out: "Humphrey work with me here!!!" and at the last instant, he complied. There were over 500 images taken that day but patience did finally pay off (both figuratively & literally). 8x10 image in an 11x14 double mat. Copyright 2005, Hutch Martin. All rights reserved.
